Birdspot - Alcaria Ruiva hill
Bird sanctuary
· Aljustrel
Catch a glimpse of a Griffon Vulture and other majestic birds.
The Alcaria Ruiva hill is visible from a great distance but is best viewed from a pull-off on the N122 where it meets the N123, about 11 km from Mértola. This hill is a regular roost site for Griffon Vultures, which are sometimes joined by the occasional Cinereous (Eurasian Black) Vulture. The surrounding area is good for Black-winged Kite. It is also possible to visit the summit of Alcaria Ruiva hill, which makes an ideal viewing point to scan for raptors and to check for Blue Rock Thrush.
