Birdspot - Vale Gonçalinho
Bird sanctuary managed by Liga para a Proteção da Natureza (LPN).
Close to Castro Verde is Vale Gonçalinho, a sanctuary protected by Liga para a Proteção da Natureza (LPN), an NGO whose main objective is to conserve nature. This sanctuary is one of several in the region acquired and managed by the LPN for the conservation of steppe birds.
Vale Gonçalinho has a visitors’ centre with a small shop with information about the area, the association’s activities and toilet facilities. Tracks lead towards a purpose-built nesting tower for Lesser Kestrels (and Western Jackdaws) and provide a circular walk back to the centre. This sanctuary is home to most of the steppe birds of the region and is particularly good for European Roller and Lesser Kestrel. Both bustard species and Spanish Imperial Eagle can also be spotted.
