The departure from Almodôvar is made by the road that goes towards São Pedro de Solis and São Sebastião dos Carros, small villages in a rougher area of Alentejo and closer to the region of Algarve, with landscapes contrasting with the traditional plain fileds.
This is a lighter journey that will allow you to recover the strengths from the previous stages, anticipating the following days that will be more demanding again in terms of distance and difficulty. Enjoy and cycle slowly at the pace of Alentejo.
Mértola is the final destination and before arriving there you will pass by the Poço dos Dois Irmãos, a place near the Guadiana River. You may cycle closer to the river and then return to the main road that will take you to the village, crossing the river of Oeiras by a monumental bridge.
Take the opportunity to explore Mértola, go up to the castle, walk through the quiet streets and discover the ancient Roman and Islamic heritage that exists around here. There are many restaurants where you may taste excellent regional food.
