The journey starts in Mértola and it follows secondary roads, with almost no traffic along the Alentejo plains rich in biodiversity. The route will go along Namorados, crosses the river of Oeiras near Água Santa da Morena and it passes through Alvares. The presence of bird species will be frequent bringing good opportunities for short birdwatching stops.

A good part of the journey will take place in the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, with emphasis on the road section connecting São Marcos da Atabueira to Entradas. The cereal steppe offers good habitat conditions for many endangered species such as the Great Bustard.
The road will be followed towards Carregueiro and a few quilometers away the village of Aljustrel will appear as the final destination, where you may explore its impressive mining heritage.
