The hike starts at the village of Corte Pequena, 15 km away from Mértola. From the village follow the dirt road that descends towards the river. You can make some detours along the way to have a wider perspective over the valley.

When you arrive near the river you will discover many points around to be explored. You may walk over the dike that extends into the middle of the river to observe the watermill of Canais. If you move to the south you will get at the rock of Galé, a special spot for fishermen in ancient times. From the edge of Guadiana, you may observe many bird species, including the rare Black Stork.
