BIRDING TRAIL

① Entradas Reservoir

The dam provides a relaxing place from which to watch, in the shade of a cluster of eucalypts, a range of interesting bird species attracted by the near-permanent water.

Occasionally, visits are made, especially at the end of summer and during autumn, by the rare and shy Black Stork Ciconia nigra (SP/SU/AU), while more frequently present are Great Crested Grebe Podiceps cristatus (SP/SU), Northern Lapwing Vanellus vanellus (WI), Little Ringed Plover Charadrius dubius (SP/SU), Green Sandpiper Tringa ochropus (YR), as well as a suite of ducks that regularly include the handsome Red-crested Pochard Netta rufina (YR). It is also common to see flocks of Western Cattle Egrets Bubulcus ibis (YR) roosting on the banks of the dam.
